Medicare & Fees for Contact Lenses

The medicare system currently has a rebate for regular eye examinations, but no rebate for most contact lens consultations.

We charge a private contact lens consultation fee. This fee of $195 includes the contact lens fitting, the contact lens lesson/s and the 2 week follow up appointment.

Medicare may offer a rebate for people with very high or difficult prescriptions which makes their glasses very thick, heavy or impractical. The optometrist will inform you if you meet the medicare requirements and your contact lens fee will be $50 out of pocket instead.

If you have previously worn contact lenses there may be a small fee to be fitted with new lenses.
